Concept visualizationWith 85-inch and even 100-inch TVs available, is a projector still worth it? It depends on the room, the screen size you want and how you watch.
When a projector wins
- Size: for images of roughly 100 inches and above, projection is usually more practical and cost-effective.
- Cinema feel: a large reflected image in a dark room is closer to the cinema experience and easy on the eyes.
- Architectural integration: screens can be hidden, masked or placed in front of speakers (acoustically transparent).
- Dedicated rooms: with light control, modern 4K laser projectors look superb.
When a TV wins
- Bright rooms: living rooms with daylight favour TVs' higher brightness.
- Daily viewing: news, sport and casual watching are simpler on a TV.
- Smaller rooms: where a 75–85 inch screen already fills the view.

The best of both
Many media rooms combine a TV for everyday viewing with a motorised screen that drops in front of it for movie nights, with the projector hidden in the ceiling.
Projector categories we recommend
For screens up to about 110 inches, a quality 4K home cinema projector. For about 110–135 inches, a 4K laser projector. For larger or scope screens, high-brightness reference-grade laser projection. Exact models are chosen after a site assessment.
